A Glimpse Into Their World

Background
Kamran is in grade four and lives with his taya-abu (paternal uncle) after his father passed away. His taya expects Kamran to work so he can earn money to “pay back” for supporting the family. Every day, Kamran works at a brick kiln or in wedding halls washing dishes. The work is hard and tiring, and it leaves him little time for school, friends, or play. His education is being compromised, and he is not always able to attend school.

Kamran has never been excited about the things other children enjoy. His childhood has been snatched away from him, replaced with responsibilities far too heavy for someone his age. Despite this, he still holds onto small joys. He loves watching pigeons and feels calm when he sees them walking or flying. He enjoys his meals and appreciates every bite of food he gets. He also cares deeply for his mother and younger siblings, trying to help them whenever he can.

Even with a difficult daily life, Kamran dreams of becoming a police officer when he grows up. He wants to protect others and create a better life for himself and his family. He thinks about a future where he can go to school regularly, play with friends, and feel free like other children his age. These small hopes give him strength, even though his childhood has been taken from him.

Kamran is serious, hardworking, and quiet for his age. His love for pigeons, his respect for his mother, and his dream of becoming a police officer show that, despite everything, he has the determination to one day change his life and reclaim the future that was denied to him.
